Waheed-Ul-Rahman Ahmed - President
Hi all! My name is Waheed-Ul-Rahman Ahmed and I am a third-year medical student at the University of Exeter. I have had the great fortune of being elected president of the Exeter Surgical Society, after serving as events coordinator and treasurer for the society last year. I am highly passionate about a career in academic surgery, being particularly interested in plastic surgery. During my time as president I will ensure that Exeter Surgical Society members are enthused and educated about a highly-competitive career in surgery and that there are a vast array of lectures, workshops and careers evenings that students can attend to gain insight into surgery.
My previous leadership efforts led me to be awarded a full grant to attend the University of Oxford, Young Muslim Leadership Programme, a highly-competitive and intensive summer school, emphasising my leadership capability. I am really excited about the opportunity to lead the Surgical Society towards a new direction and hope to use the skills I have acquired to make history for the society. In my ever-ambitious nature, I hope to organise Exeter Surgical Society’s first ever conference: The South West Plastic Surgery Conference 2018.

As a society, we hold lectures every week to help students improve their understanding of anatomy and its clinical relevance. We will also be hosting a variety of events such as workshops and career evenings during the course of the year. We also organise surgical placement opportunities for members throughout the course of the year to ensure students interested in pursuing a surgical career have as much experience possible as early as possible.
One of my roles as the vice-president is to ensure that you have the best possible experience as a member of the society so during the course of the year, if you have any ideas, suggestions or complaints, please feel free to contact me at

Roanna Norman- Events Coordinator
