Exciting New Research Opportunity

EuroSurg are the first pan european medical student research collaborative. We follow a similar structure to the GlobalSurg project and the STARSurg collaborative. Students across european countries will come together and conduct research, contributing to big multi-centre, international cohort studies. These studies will then be published in journals, where every collaborator will be PubMed citable.

The Exeter Surgical Society (ExeSS) is one of the largest academic societies at the University of Exeter Medical School - we are very proud to be affiliated with the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Edinburgh (RCSEng/Ed) through the ‘In Partnership’ scheme.

Our motto is: ‘helping create tomorrow’s surgeons’ through high-quality lectures delivered by surgeons each week, as well as allowing pre-clinical students the opportunity to scrub into surgery and network with surgeons through weekly surgical placements at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital.

This year we are excited to be organizing termly Surgical Career’s Evenings which will introduce you to the different surgical specialties and provide invaluable careers advice from consultants and surgical trainees. We will also teach you how to carry out basic and advanced suturing and knot-tying through our regional Exeter-Plymouth Suturing Skills Course (more to follow) and regular suturing skills workshops.

We offer all these amazing events and opportunities to our members for only £5 for the academic year. Becoming a member of the Exeter Surgical Society is a great opportunity for aspiring surgeons and keen medical students alike to broaden their views on surgery whilst acquiring additional learning which can help in their medical studies.

We look forward to seeing you all at our stall at the Medics’ Fresher’s Fair this Thursday, September 21st at the St Luke’s Campus. You can find us on Table 1 all day from 10AM-3PM.

Do come by to the Fair and say hello to our friendly ExeSS committee and see what the Exeter Surgical Society is offering to its membership this year.

Waheed Ahmed
Exeter Surgical Society President
