Roanna Norman - Co-President
Hi! My name is Ro and I am a final year medical student. I have been elected as one of your co-presidents for Exeter Surgical Society this academic year and look forward to sharing my passion for surgery with you. Last year I intercalated in anatomy, giving me a deeper understanding of surgery and research, which I wish to implement into our curriculum, allowing you to develop the necessary skills for a surgical career. As co-president, I will work closely with the committee to provide you with a variety of opportunities, including lectures, surgical skills workshops, placements and conferences, that allow you to gain further insight into surgery. Hannah Redpath - Co-President
My name is Hannah Redpath and I am one of the Exeter Surgical Society Co-Presidents. I previously graduated with a BSc in Neuroscience from the University of Nottingham in 2017 and now I aspire to be a Paediatric Neurosurgeon. My non-academic interests vary from Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, yoga and dancing to babysitting my nieces and playing boardgames.
My role as Co-President is to ensure the smooth running of a proactive society. In order to achieve this, I feel it is important that everyone works together as a team, but also have the autonomy to make the most out of their individual role. I will ensure the society meets regularly and can feedback regular updates.
Lara Hogan - Events Coordinator
Hi everyone! My name is Lara and I’m a second-year medical student.
As one of the new Surgical Society Event Coordinators, my aim is to enhance and build upon the current society foundations. I will achieve this by working in collaboration with the committee, lecturers, and surgeons to organize novel events to make the complex world of surgery more fun and approachable. I hope to integrate the society more with the medical student community through listening to feedback and tailoring the events and teaches to the needs of the students.

Awais Chaudhary - Events Coordinator
Hi, my name is Awais Chaudhary and I am a fourth-year medical student at the University of Exeter. I am interested in Vascular, Orthopaedic and ENT surgery. I also enjoy gym, photography and sports such as basketball and tennis. I will be your Events Coordinator along with Lara. We will be planning some insightful and exciting events about different surgical careers as well as AMK teaches. We aim to provide teaches and workshops by leading surgeons and doctors in different fields of surgery to help boost your interest. Also, we will provide AMK teaches to help and boost your knowledge. We hope to provide enough exposure so medical students can consider surgery as their career path. James Scrimshaw - Placement and Mentor Scheme Coordinator
My name is James Scrimshaw, a 2nd year medical science student. I have been elected as one of your placement and mentor scheme coordinators for surgical society this academic year. My interests are cardiology and neurosurgery. My non-academic interests are wakeboarding, rugby, Airsoft and quad biking. I will be there to supervise and organise placements (subject to covid restrictions) to boost your surgical experience. I will also be organising and running the mentor scheme, allowing you to work with surgical specialists either online or face to face throughout the year.
Shivang Burman - Surgical Skills Coordinator
Hi! My name is Shivang, and I am one of the surgical skills coordinators for the society. Last year, I had completed an MSc in Genomic Medicine, and now I will be starting my final year of medicine here in Exeter. My interests lie with plastics, orthopaedics and vascular surgery, as well as cardiology and genetics. Outside of medicine, I enjoy travelling, music, cooking and baking. Ieva Jakaityté - Surgical Skills Coordinator
Hi! I am Ieva, a fourth-year medical student. I will be continuing in the role of surgical skills coordinator for the ExeSS this year. My interests include collaborative research, plastics, vascular surgery and ENT. Outside of surgery, I enjoy cycling, badminton, wild swimming and hiking. As surgical skills coordinator, I aim to increase the number of opportunities available to students to practice surgical skills by organising more practical events online and in person. I aim to further increase students’ appreciation for surgical skills by introducing them to advanced surgical techniques including vascular anastomoses, lesion excision, laparoscopic surgery and organising a surgical skills competition.

Mac Taylor - IT and Publicity
Hi! My name is Mac and I’m a Second Year Medical Student. As this year’s IT and Publicity Secretary, my aim is to ensure as many people are aware and have access to our events and opportunities as possible. As a second-year medical student, I’m not completely set on one particular speciality, but instead, I’m excited to gain experience and explore as many as I can.
